Stories, jokes, and various other fun stuff edited by Janine Smith
NEW!! Check out my bookshelf! All my favorite books, complete with reviews. http://www.shelfari.com/jzine/shelf
And it's time to go to the Jackson Hole Writers Conference. I'll be there, will you? http://jacksonholewritersconference.com/
What's your favorite podcast? Ask a Ninja? Dr. Tiki?
The perfect gift for your favorite tree-hugger is James Balog's stunning photography book, Tree: A New Vision of the American Forest. For a story about an, um, interesting journey in the forest, read my Yellowstone tale.
This just in: a terrorism update. http://users.chartertn.net/tonytemplin/FBI_eyes/
Like baseball? Or just need some inspiration? Here's the book for you: http://www.steppinguptotheplate.com/
The Basset Hound Spring Games were a smashing success, as usual. Go see all the photos.
Need a lift? Go here: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~geoffo/humour/flattery.html Then, quick, go do this. It's very cool. http://www.inlibertyandfreedom.com/ilaf.htm And, if you were a Smurf, what would your name be?
Yes, the photos are up from the Mongolia trip. Plus Janine has finished putting up the pictures from the around-the-world trip. And the Glacier Trip. Some Maui dive photos. The Belize dive photos.
We're not normally flag-wavers, but these aren't normal times. Candice Gawne has designed a wonderful neon flag that really captures the American spirit. You can see it, and her other work, at Luminous Arts. And to send some much-needed support to our troops overseas, go to http://operationgratitude.com
And many of us are looking for a way to make a difference in the world these days. Check our new list of links worthy of your support. And here's a fabulous way to give in someone else's name--Charity Checks!
All we can say is...hot diggity! Yet another cautionary tale of food obsession in Southern California. Don't read this one if you're hungry. But do take a peek at Hennessy's new picture. Speaking of matters canine, our new favorite business is Scoop Masters Dog Poop Scoopers. Really.
Here's some advice we should all take to heart. http://www.1112.net/lastpage.html Also, a message from Poopsie Pizzashorts. Plus a new joke from John!
New contributor Chris has a story direct from Fiji, a poignant tale of a man and his onion.
Read all the buzz about Bill's Cross Dressing (not his personal fashion preference, but his new book and his history-making marketing plan). Eric's new book, Casual Rex, is out, too. Tim's website has some new stuff. And David's website is up! Visit to see his fabulous jewelry finds and designs.
Some new short stories. An unexpected security breach. Merger mania! A seasonal adventure with fruitcake. Beware. And a quick story about lunch with the LAPD. Only in LA.
Read about Sarah's trials and tribulations in the world of romance-novel writing. Fortunately, she's moved on to screenwriting. No stress involved there, right?
Need an excuse for a party? (Uh, some of us don't, but you might.) Maybe it's your Decimal Birthday! Find out now. http://www.jarusa.com/birthday/ And find out where your dollars have been lately at www.wheresgeorge.com
A great poem from Thom about how everything just isn't how it used to be. New stories from Janet, Ray, and Janine. Not to mention the Basset's latest adventure. And new contributor Rick is just kidding about the whole thing. We think.
The Big Weblist and the Bigger Weblist both got extensive updates. And we found a bunch of new Favorite Sites. We've added a list of favorite quotes. Send us your favorite!
If you're new to Jzine, you might have missed the hiking story, the potatoes story, or the rest of the archives.
Subverse gave us a lovely review--and we're delighted to have discovered this wonderful site. Our friends at Fierce dot com have a new look and some great new features.
Jared Stehr kindly helped us fix a link to his ear-notching site (it's in the pig ears story). He said he would love to link to us, but he only links to animal-husbandry sites. We've polled the staff, and, as far as we can tell, this is the first time any of us here at Jzine have been rejected for insufficient pig sex (though we might double-check with Tom).
Everyone's asking for some book suggestions, so here are a couple of lists. Want something specific? Search Jzine.

Well, it's a good thing Sue sent me a redneck joke, and Karen and John sent some jokes. Because Tom's really slacking off here. He did send me one lousy joke. The last joke may be just too tasteless, even for us (I know, hard to imagine...). You decide. Fortunately, other loyal friends have stepped in to save the day! Thanks to Carolyn and Bill. Also, don't miss the virus alert and the letter.
Yes, the Yellowstone story has to be told, no matter how embarrassing. A delicious new relationship is blooming. Customer service catastrophes and alarming disconnects. What happens when the LAPD takes you out to lunch? Hint: you don't get to finish your chicken sandwich quite the way you'd planned. And, yes, it's time for the banana sequel. Not to mention a Very Special Olympics. And Mother Nature's been a teeny tiny bit hostile lately. You'll see what happens when Nature calls.
Some profound Windows Haikus. A poem for the Computer Age. Got writer's block? We feel your pain. And there's an oh-so-politically-correct birthday card.
